The Photographic Society of South Africa (PSSA) holds an annual Congress in different parts of the country each year. This year the Congress was held in Port Elizabeth and hosted by the Port Elizabeth Camera Club, which, being 127 years old, is the second oldest club in the country. The venue for the Congress was the historic Athenaeum, which has been home to the PE Camera Club since it was built in 1894. It provided the perfect setting for a week filled with lectures, workshops and photo shoots and the opportunity to discuss all things photographic.

Winning Images taken at Congress: 1st Simon Fletcher – Port Elizabeth Beachfront

Delegates came from all over and were treated to an exciting programme covering a wide range of subjects presented by lecturers from all around the country as well as from abroad. It was an opportunity to be totally stimulated and there was something for everyone – little did they all know the wealth of photographic opportunities that are available in and around Port Elizabeth.  Running concurrently with the Congress was a photographic exhibition at the GFI Gallery – Moments in Time – a selection of photographs created to express the artist’s perceptions and emotions – this exhibition shares these moments and includes more than 240 images by 127 photographers from 14 different countries.
