The Canon EOS series – the world leader for 17 years

Canon’s interchangeable-lens digital cameras (DSLR and Mirrorless) have maintained the number one share of the global market for the 17th  consecutive year.1

Canon EOS R System

EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera and RF lenses that fully leverage the company’s optical technologies, the new products helped further expand the Canon EOS System. It’s built around the same 30 megapixel Dual Pixel CMOS sensor as 2016’s EOS 5D Mark IV but is designed for a new series of RF lenses. Canon says the shorter RF lens mount will allow them to design better or smaller lenses than they can for the existing EF mount.

From the introduction of the groundbreaking EOS 300D in 2003, to the EOS RP full-frame mirrorless and EOS 90D DSLR in 2019, Canon has led the way in the development of CMOS image sensors, image processors and interchangeable lenses, giving users unparalleled high-image-quality shooting, with easy operation.

Designed for speed, comfort and high image quality, the EOS series ranges from entry level to high performance professional models, supporting the diverse needs of customers around the world.

EOS 300D, a world first in DSLR technology

Launched at a competitive price and featuring a compact, lightweight design, the EOS 300D captured the top share of the global market in 2003, setting the stage for the growth of DSLR. Since then, Canon has launched a range of world firsts, including the professional-model EOS-1D and the EOS 5D series, which paved the way for digital SLR video recording.

In 2018 the EOS R system introduced the EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera and RF lenses that fully leveraged the company’s optical technologies, delivering a wealth of new possibilities for photographic expression.

Added to that, a wide range of attractive products,2 including the EOS RP full-frame mirrorless camera and the EOS 90D DSLR, were introduced in 2019, further cementing Canon’s global leadership.

Revolutionary new innovations on the horizon

Canon is currently developing the EOS R5 full-frame mirrorless camera. Equipped with a newly developed full-frame CMOS sensor, it will provide high-speed continuous shooting for still images and 8K video recording.

The company will also be introducing 9 RF lens models, including the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM, which will be released during the course of 2020.

“Maintaining the number one share of the global interchangeable-lens digital camera market is an achievement to celebrate and reinforces Canon’s dominance and commitment within this prestigious category,” said Issei Morimoto, Senior Vice President of Canon Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Europe, Middle East & Africa.

“With a market leading product such as the EOS R5 still to come, it is essential we continue to demonstrate technical and optical innovation in all our products, so that we provide excellence, reliability and value to our customers across EMEA”.

Canon remains committed to the goal of continually refining its diverse imaging technologies, providing new avenues of image capture for an increasingly diverse photo and video culture.
